Be on the look out for special deals. One of the biggest deals is free rent for the first month, and sometimes two months. This can be great if you are in a tight spot, and need some extra money the first month you move into your apartment. To make it easier for you, always find a rental agency that delivers and sets up your furniture for you. Also find an agency that supplies a warranty on the furniture you rent, especially for things like electronics. Unless you have your own insurance policy set up, it is also a good idea to get the rental insurance as well, just in case something happens.
While theres a lot of resources out there for decorating todays larger homes, theres very little about how to decorate an apartment or incorporate your furniture into it. Lets face it, many people are downsizing these days and even a 1,000 square foot apartment can seem pretty small after living in a house.
After you figured out what your essential activities are, you are ready to start going furniture shopping. Try to find pieces of furniture that serve two uses. Storage ottomans are a terrific example, because you can sit on them, use them as a coffee table, and also store things out of sight. Wall shelves and containers are very useful because you may be tight on shelf space and youre certainly tight on floor space. If you are buying a bed, seriously consider the kinds of beds but you can store things under. Finally, try to go for height -- floor-to-ceiling shelving has made the difference in many small apartments and dorm rooms.
