Consider this blast from the past, art deco interior design with small apartment furniture. Once it was all the rage in the 1920s and 30s. However it had a short lived life as a way of designing and setting yourself apart from everyone else. This is in all probability because it grew to such vast popularity. Once everyone started to have it you were no longer set apart from the mainstream and in essence no longer different. Art deco interior design has no deep founded roots in political movements or philosophical theories; it was simply a movement to be creative. It was a whim so to speak and everyone was excited to try and take part in it.
If you have decided on the amount of space you can allot for seating and have your budget decided, there are still some other things that need to be taken into consideration. Round tables have always been the first selection for cramped quarters but dont limit yourself to just one style. Long narrow kitchens often extend a much more aesthetic look with the use of a oblong table with a bench that slides underneath it when not in use.
There are bar tables that come with stools. These are also known as pub tables and go a long way in serving an excellent purpose. The one drawback is the minimal seating which does not comfortably accommodate more than two people. For couples with children there are better choices some of which have already been mentioned.
Measure the room - The first thing you need to do is measure the room in which you are going to put the small table. Knowing the rooms measurements will help you narrow down the options you have when it comes to selecting a small table. Once you have the room measurements you need to consider what else will go in the room in addition to the small table. Think about chairs, china cabinets, bookshelves and other pieces of furniture that will help complete this space. Once you know all of the pieces of furniture that will go into the room you should be able to narrow down how much space you have for the small table.
However, with a little creativity, space planning and repurposing your furniture, you can easily adapt your lifestyle to apartment living while still feeling like its home. First, creating a comfy home in an apartment doesnt require a huge outlay of cash, especially if youre moving from a home to an apartment, either in your own town or halfway across the country. The first step is to figure out what fits in your new space. This may require some hard decisions. If you cant fit it all in, you can always put what you cant use in storage until you either move to larger quarters or decide its fate.
Apartments that need decorating may be limited in size but never forget they also have height and this is something that can be very successfully utilized when it comes to furnishings such as an entertainment centre, or a desk for your home office equipment. Drop leaf tables, or tables which have additional leaves that drop into the middle of a dining table, have been around for generations. There are now many dining tables on the market which can be fitted against a wall, with a drop-down leaf that can be released when not in use. Conversely, another innovation is the dining table into which two chairs can be slotted when not in use - certainly my choice if I was in the position where I needed to conserve space.
